With a focus on weight reduction and increased longevity, industry experts have been studying the potentiality around combining carbon fiber and additive manufacturing—together applied to honeycomb sandwich structures. Key manufacturers are increasingly using Honeycomb structures to achieve superior durability and excellent flexural and shear strength compared to conventional OEM aerospace floor panels. Used extensively in both commercial and military air carriers, aerospace floor panel is honeycomb structure bonded providing ultimate high performance.

The exclusive supplier of yarns to our Atlas contract operation has decided to dramatically reduce the supply of white dyeable yarns, which have been the major source of differentiation and supported the majority of our Atlas product line. The Atlas business model had been to make piece dyeable products on a build to order model. The change in piece dyed yarn availability along with other product trends in the market place has caused us to change our business model. We have responded by merging our two commercial businesses; first by consolidating the marketing, product development, and support functions followed by consolidating our sales team and manufacturing operations. That consolidation is now complete. We are still in the process of introducing new products to replace those being phased out and will continue this transition for several years.
To perfectly synchronize physical flow of components and related information flow without human intervention, the aircraft components manufacturers are deploying RFID technology in workstations, wherein scanners read the data and commands corresponding to robots and its systems. An application of RFID gathering much appreciation is controlling the tools in the dynamic manufacturing environment to efficiently use them during the work shifts. Moreover, tools used either for shared and specific task or lost and forgotten in the manufacturing plant, RFID holds the potential to manage systems pertaining to each tool and optimize its usage and application time—especially for expensive, specialty tools.

Simpson outlined Valance and Peplum (2017) in graphite and colored pencil on vellum graph paper before beginning work. Born in 1935, Simpson is the oldest artist featured in this year’s Biennial, but her work is innovative and commands multiple views in its own designated space, a momentous tribute to an artist celebrated for decades under the radar.
In November 2016, the DOE announced its Deep Energy Retrofit Challenge to improve the efficiency of its facilities through retrofit projects that leverage performance contracting. The goal is to award a minimum of $125 million in performance-based contracts by the end of fiscal year 2018, producing deeper savings in treated facilities. The challenge supports the Executive Order 13693 requirement to reduce the energy use intensity of participating buildings by 25 percent by 2025 from a 2015 baseline. Buildings that realize energy-use reductions of greater than 40 percent will also be prime candidates for meeting the DOE’s goal of achieving net-zero energy, waste, or water in 1 percent of its existing buildings by 2025.

ESPCs allow agencies to partner with energy services companies (ESCOs) to finance the upfront costs of retrofit projects by leveraging their long-term energy savings. This approach requires no upfront capital costs or special appropriations from Congress, which makes it attractive to agencies. The ESCO’s guaranteed energy cost savings are used to pay back the initial cost of implementing the measures. UESCs are similar mechanisms, and use the utility directly rather than an ESCO. When appropriated funding is available, it can pay for energy projects directly, but can often drive greater value by being incorporated into existing ESPC projects.
"To me, it’s been night and day. It’s a huge programmatic space that was not used previously," says the Y’s program director Rusty Decker, who has experienced his own personal conversion. "The position that I’m in has always been focused mainly on the rink, and now the position has morphed into ice rink, offseason rink and also programming. I’m looking to do things year-round. I can now book a weeklong basketball camp in the summer and not displace our YMCA members out of the gym."
